Alex Lacazette is on track for record season at Arsenal

In-form Alex Lacazette is on course for his best season in an Arsenal jersey.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has bagged five goals in his last four outings, including a brace against West Brom on Saturday, and his tally across all competitions this season now stands at nine goals from 19 appearances.

Laca is comfortably clear in the club scoring charts, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Eddie Nektiah, and Nicolas Pepe joint second with five goals each.

To date, Laca has netted a goal every 130 minutes, having so far clocked up 1,171 minutes, which is better than his career average of a goal every 162 minutes and far more prolific than anything he has achieved for the Gunners since he arrived in the summer of 2017.

His best year for the club remains his first, the 2017/18 season, when he notched 17 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions. His average that season was a goal every 162 minutes.

If anyone has benefited from the arrival of Arsenal’s young Guns in the first team, and the relative struggles of Aubameyang, it is Lacazette, who has certainly made the most of his new-found freedom up front.

With the 2020/21 season barely at the half-way mark, however, there is a long way still to go and thousands of minutes still to be played. For now, though, we can enjoy Lacazette in the form of his Arsenal career and hope it continues in the crucial weeks and months ahead.

With the Frenchman entering the last 18 months of his contract, and with his 30th birthday looming large in May, the club will also soon be arriving at a key point – do they extend, allow the contract to run down, or attempt to recoup some value from a player who cost more than £40 million in 2017?

Whatever the club decides to do, it can only benefit from a striker who remains in form and scoring goals.
